    Ebay woes...any suggestions?

I had a friend over one afternoon and he was looking on ebay for a particular item. He bid on it under my name on accident (beats me...). Anyways, I sent the seller an email telling him what happenned and asked him kindly to please cancel my bid. Well, he didn't. And guess what? I won the item. After the auction was over, I sent him another email explaining the situation and telling him I would not be able to buy the item. then he send me this garbage (first reply to any of my emails):

"There is nothing I can do about this situation. Your
eBay bid is a contractual binding act as per eBay User
Agreement Policy. If you are not willing to pay for
this item, I will be forced to take this matter up
    with eBay.

    Best Regards,

    -*******"

Now, first of all I asked him to please cancel my bid before the auction was over. Is there anything I can do to prevent any trouble with this guy? I did not (for some reason un-known to myself) send a copy of the email to myself concerning cancelling the bid but maybe eBay will have that. The item is like $30 shipped which isn't a terribly large amount but for a teenager making minimum wage it's alot of money. Any ideas?

Tell your friend that since he bid on it he is going to pay for it because obviously he knew what he was doing when he bid.
You can cancel your bid before the auction ends to, but it is too late for that.

Well if your pattyzimelt or whatever, just take the negative feedback if you have to. You only have like 2 feedback, just start a new account if you want. Its not like you gonna loose a 250+ positive feedback account.
Or get the friend to pay up.

explain the situation to ebay. if you are that worried about the negative feedback on that user, shoot an emai to ebay, explain what happend, friend was screwing around, seller refused to cancel bid. you may avoid the neg feedback that way, and avoid having to pay for the item.

alternatively, you can contact the other bidder, let them know the situation, and see if they want to pay for it.

I already talked to my friend about it, he says he already bought another one (wtf?). I don't really care about the feedback I guess, It's just nice not having to worry about it.

So tell your friend he bought two. He bid on it with your account and now you are stuck paying $30 for his mistake? If your friend sees that as alright and refuses to pay then he is a jerk.

Its not just the feedback you have to be concerned about, he will file a non-paying bidder report once you get three of those they close your account and try not to let you open another one (you can but its a pita).

E-mailing eBay isn't going to do anything since you knew he bid and didn't cancel it on your own (which you could have).

its not easy to cancel a bid. i think that there are only 3 reasons that ebay will accept, and that is not one of them. and you cant cancel a bid if the item ends in 12 hours. this is so that people dont bid shield on items (bid a high ammount, then cancel at the last minute and re-bid a small ammount). you should try e-mailing ebay, although it probably wont have any effect anyway, since they are a large company, and in their eyes it is probably not worth their time to answer your e-mail.

I say wait until he files the NPA (none-paying bidder alert) if he actually goes threw the trouble.. we'll then pay for it and then kick ur friends arse.

There are only three reasons, but you just go ahead and click the box for entered wrong bid amount or somthing. eBay doesn't check it before it takes effect and noone ever complains about it.

As I said tell your friend that he bid on it and now you are resonsible for payment and since he bid he should pay.

i would make your friend pay whether he bought another one or not.
if he doesnt i would take something of his that is worth $50. a friend would pay you!!!!

or another option you have that would make you kind of a jerk but might work is.

you dont care about his feedback but he might.
after he leaves you negative feedback. do the same to him. ebay has a mutual feedback removal now. maybe he would do that.

and also as stated you only have a feedback of 2. just start over. cancel your use name and then resign up.

They have mutual feedback removal? That's going to create way more problems then it solves.

yep my thought's exactly but i guess it would be good if someone accidently left you negative feedback. since you couldnt get rid of it prior to the mutual.

You could, square trade would delete it if the other party consented and you payed $20.
