    Kudos to Spybot S & D !

    My "anti-virus/ firewall" (cough) huge (gasp)Z !

My weekly scan turned up a huge amount of adware than hadn't been there the week before....and in spite of the firewall being on managed to find its way in anyway. And couldn't be removed by the anti-virus.

Installed Spybot and knocked it + a bunch of other stuff the AV didn't find right out. Great program!

Also, try downloading and running AdAware. That and spybot work well with eachother, finding stuff that the other one missed, and vice versa.

I used to run S&D and Ad-Aware, then I bought SpySweeper. Picked up everything the other two missed, plus it also acts like a firewall and blocks spyware specifically. I now run Norton 2k4, ZoneAlarm, and SpySweeper and any time I run Norton or Sweeper both turn up nothing!

I run AVG 6.0, ZoneAlarm, PeerGuardian and Spybot S&D. All 4 are completley free and I havn't had a single problem for the past month or so(my last reformat).

So true!!! Also try CWShredder and HijackThis!. They find other spyware that Spybot and Ad-Aware misses. I was able to fully delete some spyware on my sisters computer that Spybot and Ad-Aware couldn't find. I do caution using HijackThis! for the average user. It is not as friendly as CWShredder. It lists all programs that runs when IE opens. If you delete a needed file, you could more harm than the spyware.
