Car help - My truck "jumps"

I have an good idea of what my truck is worth and there is just about no way I'm sinking a 1k tranny into it.

I don't even change the oil myself.

Edit: I forgot to mention that *sometimes* the Check Engine light come on. I pull over, pop the hood and it goes away
