Where did Bungie get thier inspiration for HALO?

From the 1986 James Cameron sequel, "Aliens"...

Has anyone alse noticed the similarities?

The dropships from Halo look similar to the dropship in Aliens. Both even carry land vehicles (warthog/apc) in the rear.

The marines are almost an exact copy from Aliens. From the gruff, black sarge, to the whiney, pessimistic private. From their mannerisms, to their armor.

The shape and even the cinematics of the Marines' Battle cruisers in both storylines are almost Identical.

The covenant elites from Halo have a similar long skull to the Giger Aliens. They also have the 4-part jaw, similar to the predator...

Ever noticed that some of the sayings in StarCraft are said in the Alien series (pre StarCraft). Especially with the DropShips.

In other words, yes I've noticed.
    Sorry, I'm old

How bout the actual planet? I take it none of you are familiar with the works of Larry Niven, writer and creator of 'The Ringworld'. Great series of books, and I see some similarities in Halo all the time. The 'Engineers' ? The architect?

I never thought about it until this post, but now that you have me thinking, there's definately a connection there, indeed indeed!

I believe there is a link to Starship Troopers (book or comic) to Starcraft.

im pretty sure most game designers are big sci-fi dorks and they all will get some inspiration from the things that define Sci-Fi Dorkdom.

Its like asking if any of the Fantasy RPG designers got any inspiration from Tolkien.

that usually goes without saying... Its very rare to find a game, movie, etc that is 100% original.

I'm just saying that usually you see a broader range of influences, whereas Halo has a remarkable amount of content almost copied directly from Aliens.

              example:

              The Pillar of Autumn

If you look hard enough, you will find similarities, even if none actually exist. They may have subconsiously made them similar, but probably not. Most huge gigantic spaceships in sci-fi movies look somewhat the same, because how different can they look? Do you expect them to be a gigantic maze of connecting tubes or something?

ok, I for one don't think the covenent elites look anything like the Giger's aliens, other than the fact that their aliens.

One of my proffesors said "nothings truely original, your job is to take from whats out there and put your own unique take on it."

Just remember Gobots looked "similar" to Transformers, and in the end they were all just giant robots. However, a world of suckage seperated one legendary toyline from its much lesser knockoff.

ps. on a similar note, you ever notice how "The Fast and The Furious" is basically a remake of "Point Break".

i think they do have some similarities but i found the story itself to be somewhat like enders game

I think that bungi did a great job though. They may have taken bits from other places but the entire story is really original. I cant think of another story with jackel like aliens, grunts or hunters really. Quilty spark seems like ive seem him somewere else though. All in all, halo is one sick game. Keep it up master chief.

Should I feel somewhat dorkishly ashamed that I've never played halo, or even been in the same room as the game? That I wouldn't know what it was if it came up from behind and bit me in the arse? /me blushes
