I think if the kids are the primary reason why you're buying a game machine, the Gamecube is definitely the way to go. The games are simple to get into, characters the kids can grow to like, Nintendo first party developers have a really good way to making sure kids know how to play the game through their intuitive controls and on screen information that sometimes, your kid doesn't need to know how to read in order to know how to play it. Here are a few titles I know the kids would probably enjoy:
Zelda: Windwaker
Luigi's Mansion
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Party
Starfox Adventure
Any of the Star Wars games
There are other games I've enjoyed that isn't geared towards the kids but have friendly graphics so if your kids wanted to watch you play, they can:
Super Metroid Prime
Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicals
Tales of Symphonia
Don't get me mixed up as a Nintendo fanboy either. I actually own a lot of systems: NES, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32X, Sega Dreamcast, 3DO, Gameboy SP, Sony Playstation 1/2, Xbox, Gamecube.
Anyway, good luck with your decision. If you have any questions with the quality of games, check out www.gamerankings.com . They have an extensive database of game reviews and ratings. Check out your local video game store too and see what they have available.
Come back and let us know what you bought! :)
