I want to drop my english

Yea so I'm majoring in physics and thought I'd minor in english literature because it sounded like a good idea at the time, but now i'm knee deep in vectors and derivatives and can't get into the whole "write 750 words about the differences in Beowulf and Sir Gawain".

Don' t get me wrong I love the literature and like going to class but I have always been somewhat ideologically opposed to the whole 'paper' concept and I can't get into the time expendure necessary when I feel I should be focusing on my math.

I think I should just drop it and forget the minor (maybe minor in math) before it affects my gpa. The other option is just to be a slacker about it and get a c or b, but I want a high GPA for grad school, and I'm all about 'if it's worth doing it's worth doing right'....I don't know.

    Ok here's the deal...

I'll do your english homework, you do my phsyics homework.

I'm in entry level physics now and it is seriously kicking my ***... I'm a natural resources major, and the physics I'm learning is really just a pre-req for a class I have to take a year from now thats required... grr... stupid snow hydrology...

school has one purpose: to make you employable.

If you want to learn about english literature, read english literature, read about english literature, join a book club.

You sound smart enough to manage to read recreationally without an instructor hanging over your shoulder.

keep that GPA, and get through school fast

english lit majors become english lit professors, or homeless, theres no other way to get a job in the real world with that useless major. Now since you only have it as a minor, I'd probably drop it and get something that would help make you more employable.

just like brian said, "join a book club". Why waste you or your parent's money on a useless minor.

leave english lit to the trust-fund, starbucks sipping, hippy losers who will never leave academia to enter the outside world anyways.

Do it. It's college for God's sake. You can make it up later.

            ?

Why are you seemingly obsessed with having a minor? And if the math in physics is already taking too much time, do you really think adding more math is a good idea? I graduated with an engineering degree from a school known worldwide for it's engineers, scientists, etc. I learned some good stuff:
            1) getting a well rounded education is good
            2) lots of math sucks
            3) if you enjoy a certain subject (especially a non-technical one), classes in that subject were always a nice break from the technical ones.
            4) minors are overrated. You're already planning to go to grad school. Two degrees is enough, don't you think?

oh snap, Beowulf and Sir Gawain. I can't stand british literature. I have to write a 2-3 page report on a poem out of my english text. I can't stand it. To me, its pointless.

That's what I thought, and now I'm 30, married, having to make a house payment, and back in school. (I'm on the deans list this time though...)

School is MUCH MUCH MUCH easier when you are young. get through as quick as you can, get that sealskin, and THEN start screwing around after you've gotten your BS.

My wife did that, she got her BS in Aero Eng., and since then she's gone back for AA's in Real Estate, and is working on one in Anthropology. It's a lot easier after you've gotten the diploma out of the way...

                  Untrue.

A degree in English is one of the more versatile liberal arts degrees. Many companies in a diverse number of industries are in dire need of people with the ability to write.

If you want to stick with literature for a living, then yes, I agree, its fairly useless, but you can use a degree in English in marketing, advertising, technical writing, editing, etc, etc.

It's amazing how few people actually have a knack for writing things clearly. Clear communications are extremely important in business, and English majors tend to be able to make their points understood.

I think a minor in English behind any technical degree would give you a pretty good advantage when you are job hunting if you can play up the fact you possess that writing ability.

I would think a minor in Math would be pretty easy to get. I'm in Mech Engineering, which probably doesn't differ (math wise) from Physics too much, and I get an automatic Math minor. I would check to see what the courses are that you would have to add to your current sched and judge by that. I can't do the whole English thing anyways, can't stand it (not to say it's bad, just not for me). Good luck with whatever you do decide though.
