    Religion Major...

Anyone have/had a Religion Major? Anyone know someone who does? If you're done with school, what's your present career?

I'm wondering because I'm really intrigued by different religions and am considering picking it up as my major.

    Thanks AO!

Not me but its in the Family. Both my Uncles had PhD's from Duke in Theology.

One went on to stay in the teaching field for all his career. He was eventually Chaired Professor of Religon at SMU for years. Retiring out of there and returning to Easton MD. Where he is an Elder at Third Haven Meeting house located in Easton MD. I think its the oldest Quaker Meeting house in the country. Built in 1680 something. He wrote many books one religous history including some on Quakerism, Nicolites and such offshoot obscure religons as that. Mostly he was a Religous History guy... He is a member of Penn Club in England and goes over there every year. He has seemingly had a full and interesting like out of it. He currently is still alive and in Easton MD. Attending to some writing and some Meeting business and all. Retired but still gets around and goes to Europe every year. Kind of odd fellow sometimes but overall a decent guy. Never married. No children and seems more or less asexual. Celebate as it were. He supposedly had one girlfreind when was young that broke his heart and he never did again have one. Sort of strange but thats how it went. Too bad I can never get him on the net or email or I would put you in touch with him.

My other Uncle with same educational background was however quite odd. He taught for a tiny bit but could not control his temper and was fairly anti social. Very weird guy. Mostly ended up doing Art and Oddball things while eventually dying in obscurity. He was so eccentric it was common not to see him for weeks. When he died he was found weeks later in his home with piles of old papers and documents heaped to the ceiling around him. I know the few times I went to visit him he would often not answer the door. Even though he was there and knew who it was. He kept cats. Siamese cats. And from what I can tell was Gay. Although no one talks about it in the Family. Thats the way it was back in them days.

If you are interested in religion, or in critically thinking about it, you might also want to try out a course in the Philosophy of Religion. Very interesting stuff.

in all honesty i think the only two solid things you can be after a religion major is seminary, or become a theology teacher at a catholic school. or both
