    Little Earthquake in Parkfield CA

Yeah that happened about 20 minutes ago. I was just chillin and the ground started rolling much like the one that happened last december in the Atascadero area. Don't know if anyone was hurt or not its claimed to be a 5.8-6.0. Hope Breakout Paintball is ok. Interestingly that is the same area as the one in december.

And... imagine where it happened right next to.... yep the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant... imagine that, you build a power plant on a fault line and an earthquake happens? what are the chances of that? (bty I think the plant is undamaged)

I felt it here in Cupertino, and a buddy of mine felt it in SF. 6.0 isn't anything to sniffle at, either.

I felt it all the way up here (San Ramon). Then again, this building shakes when someone sneezes!

My friend read somewhere saying there was 90 aftershocks?!
Anyways, isn't CA expecting one of those big and scary earthquakes soon?

                We felt it.

And yes, there have been several aftershocks. http://quake.wr.usgs.gov/recenteqs/Maps/121-36.html

The first earthquake was at 10:19. Everything after that can be considered an aftershock. Even the big one, those are more of a secondary quake.

Zack, that was nowhere near Diablo Canyon, and over 30 miles east of the December quake. The Parkfield area is right on top of the San Andreas fault. Because of its unique location, the USGS and other govt. grants have set up monitoring stations along a 10 mile line. Using lasers and "wigglers" they have recorded 100's of thousands of quakes just in that area alone, and watched as the teutonic plates waltz past each other at about an inch a year. If you ever take H41 from Fresno to Paso Robles, you will drive along the spine of the San Andreas itself not far from Parkfield, and see where they repair the curvy road each month.

Between the hurricanes, earthquakes and that volcano(no to mention that asteroid or w/e that just went by) we're all gonna die...

On a related note, I think I'd rather have quakes than these damn hurricanes...

This earthquake really wasn't that bad...it's just once they hit 7 or above that they can get destructive. Especially that one were expecting that's supposed to be 8+ i think

What is funny, I met someone the other day who just moved down from cali and he was talking about how he has never had a hurricane and was hoping ivan would have hit. I wish we would have an earthquake in Houston. That would rock... I am tired of wind and rain and swirling vortex. It gets old quick. Uh oh, someone else lost a trailer
