So I moved into my new apartment on Saturday. Turns out I have "guests". Thank God they're not cockroaches, but still, I'm not too happy about living with vermin of any sort. I've put out the ant baits that are supposed to get the ants to carry back the poison to thye queen and kill off the whole colony, but that doesn't seem to be working. I've used Raid liquid that looks like syrup [homer] mmmmmaahhh! Syrup! [/homer]. Again, this is supposed to be carried back to the queen. It's definitely killed one or two of them, but hasn't slowed the little buggers down at all. My neighbor across the hall tells me that the super has "things that look like air fresheners but aren't". Apparently once I hang these up, my problem will be gone and I'll never see another ant in my apartment again. Now if only I could track down my super, but he seems to be AWOL.
Does anyone have any good ideas for getting rid of ants in an apartment building? Does anyone know what these "things that look like air fresheners but aren't" might be? Do they work?

Any helpful suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Look for some stuff called Terro or Revenge. It's a bait that you put down and it has borax in it. They eat it and feed it to the colony. It kills off the queen. It's just a little bottle of clear liquid that you put a few drops of it in the path that you see the ants following. They will eventually gather around it. I had a bad ant problem, a couple of day with this stuff and my problem was gone.

I had an ant problem. I just killed every ant I saw for a week. No more problem. I also left food out so that in a couple hours it would be covered in fresh victoms.

borax isn't the stuff you want...its boric acid

check your local homedepot for that stuff

then put on some thinck rubber gloves(like the ones you use when scrubbing ur shower/toilet/tub/whatever)

get 3 potatoes

make mashed potatoes
once the potatoes are mashed...mix some boric acid in...about 1:4 ratio. Make little Boric Acid balls...throw in dark corners/wherever you think the ants are living...

do not touch with your bare hands
do not allow near kids
do not allow your pets to eat it

give it a week and they will be all gone...

heres an idea

Take a can of gasoline
Douse ur entire apartment with it
Light a match and throw it on the gasoline
No more ants


*noteThis tactic to deystroy the ants could lead to the destruction of ur apartment

Do you have a link to this? I would also like to get rid of some ants, they dont come in my house(except for a few occasions) but I still dont want them near it.

I think there is stuff you can spray around the outside of the house to help keep them out.

Terro is where its at. I live in a log home and it works awesome! I will never pay a useless exterminator again.

Terro or whatever it is called is the best stuff I have ever tried. It has really showed me its the best stuff you can buy. Living in South Florida, we have ants. But since the last 2 hurricanes, ants moved into houses to find shelter. Laid the stuff down, withint 2 hours a TON of ants are all over it. 2 days pass by, they are all gone. Its great, no smell or mess, they eat it all. Its like 5 bucks for a small bottle. Pick it up.

they are searching for food. Make sure lids are screwed on things, make sure nothing is left out.

And a couple of drops of napalm into the nest will do the trick.
