Can psychics really see the past/future?

I'm sure everyone has seen the signs for "$5 Psychic Readings" in their town or while traveling elsewhere. What I wanted to discuss here were your thoughts on using psychics for more than just personal entertainment, more specifically in police and detective work.

There's been documented cases in the past where police haven't been able to solve a crime, at which point they turn to a psychic for help.
What I find the most interesting is when the psychics they hire actually solve the case.

What are your thoughts on this? What about using psychics to help solve some of the current investigations (such as the Peterson or Hacking
    trials?)

I'm not an expert myself on the topic, but I've been learning a bit more from a new show on Court TV called Psychic Detectives. It's on Wednesday's at 9:30pm in case you want to watch it too.

psycics usually read from a bland vague standardized script, used for everyone, no, they can't.

well ive heard of this thing that some branches of certain law enforcement like things use....i saw it on a documentary on the discovery channel...it was about ninjas mostly and why they were so great...but it went off with this thing where they staged a hostage place and then they like told certain people who had trained tehre mind to pick up on certain brain waves...So they stage this hostage thing and then the people just sit there for like hours and start sketching stuff and it turns out they had it down pretty good like main figures and stuff and they basically pin pointed where the hostages were in the building, i dont know if it was true or not but it was pretty cool and made me think a little

They basically tell you very vauge things and try to work information out of you which they just feed back to you.

haha that's the only thing that actually makes sense. That explains why they say stuff like "I am seeing a man...." and you'd respond "yes yes there is a man, my HUSBAND".

I believe that the "psychics" the police hire are just very perceptive, able to piece things together easier than most people, or "see" things better. As for "peering into the future," no, I don't believe anyone can do that. I think some people can "empathize" much better than most people, and sometimes can tell what a person will say next before they say it, because I myself am like that. But as for all the fortune cookie crap, I don't believe in that.

Until I see or hear an actual ghost, I don't believe in paranormal psychics either.

And that pet psychic . . . wow that's all I can say.

And that "Crossing Over" guy, South Park did a great job in explaining him

I foresee that... you will eat sometime this week. Hold on, a vision is coming... you will also have a beverage of some kind... yes, yes, I can see it now - it is definitely a liquid substance. I can see you sitting somewhere, on something hard. It feels like... porcelein. Let me concentrate now... I can hear, running water... Oh spirits, tell me what this all means! Is he in danger?

Oh yeah, and you are lusting after someone who is much younger than you - and you have thought of very unnatural things.
