Dude, that is a unheard of price for that rifle. Take the deal while you still have it, .243 is a perfect whitetail caliber. Tell ya the truth, BOSS is over-rated.
Well...I did buy it a few weeks ago. Main reason was the price. After much price checking the lowest otherwise I found was $529 without BOSS and $599 with BOSS both no scope just rifle. So for about $405 (w/ Swift Scope mounted it was $539 after tax and all) I could not pass it up. The way I figured if I did not have good experience with humain kills I could easly get my money back out of it and since I already have the scope (now the Leupold, sold the Swift on e-Bay yesterday for $95). And mount stuff I would probably go with the .308 since the mount would match right up as they are the same action. That was my logic anyway. Besides I should be able to determine that with no more than say 100 rounds on the gun and a lot of folks like .243 for Vasrmit and target. Should be a market for it.
The BOSS? Reguardless of wether its needed or not it was there for the price. Basically free. And it will help up the resale value of the Rifle so why not huh? One thing for certain is it cannot hurt anything.
Oh and by the way...let me call your attention to the fact that Cheaperthandirt.com has the discontinued Leupold Vari-X IIc in 3X9 40mm for sale while they got em for $197.16. Gloss black only. If you need a nice scope thats a nice price for it. They are liquidating them and they are going fast.

Added later: Bass Pro Shop has dropped em to $179! Gloss only...just the remaining 3X9 40mm's!!!!!!Last edited by cphilip; 02-14-2002, 08:59 AM.Comment

Wow, this is an old thread. Just one question, did you still get the lifetime warranty on the Leupold? I'm thinking of getting my own gun/scope combo. It's a matter of wants I guess, my 06 does fine with a tasco 3x9, but I still might get a high quality scope, if nothing else for the greater clarity.http://www.digitalpaintball.net - I love this game!

you have no idea what you are missing!
not to knock your tasco but the difference in a tasco and leupold is almost literally night and day. I am partial to Burris optics (which is considered in the same realm as leupold, nikon, etc.). The super optics like Ziess or Svorski(sp) (where you buy the $5000 scope with integrated laser rangefinder and receive a free rifle) are another notch beyond them. With a leupold, etc you can literally hunt 30-40 minutes after the tasco crowd has left the woods due to darkness.

Yes liftime warranty. Similar rep as AGD. Just about anything can happen to them and they replace them.
SA is correct. There are a few better scopes (extremely pricey as he points out) but there are far worse as well. The leupold has a great range of eye relief too. At these prices I think you should move on up.Comment
