Question for those Pilots out there...

Hey i just got a quick question for any of those ao'ers who are pilots.

Now im 15 almost 16 (1 month i cant wait) and im very interested in getting my private pilots liscense. I was juts wondering with a private liscense are you allowed to take passengers up with u? or do u have to get a commercial liscense?

i believe with a private pilots license u can only fly by your self

from what i understand u can learn to fly at any age but cant solo till ur 16

ok heres the deal. with a privatge license, yes you can take passengers. no you cant charge them. you need your commercial license for that. so that means, you rent the plane, and you pay for fuel.

I doubt you are going to jail if your friend helps out with rental/fuel as long as you arn't making a buisness out of it. Are there differant liceses for a prop plane and a jet? I can see someone who got there license in a prop plane get into a small jet and be a little lost.
I think it's about 2k by the time you finish paying for the instructers and courses, FAA licensing fees (if any), and the biggest one is the rental fees for the plane.
I'm curious though as to if anyone knows what it costs to hanger a plane, or get a tiedown (if you can even use that as a means of permenant storage).

well technically they can revoke your license if they find out. its mostly so you cant charter flights without having a commercial license, but if your going out for they day with some friends, they might not care too much. they still could depends on who found out.

yes there are licenses or ratings for everything. turbine rating, IFR, VFR, taildragger, floatplane rating, multiengine, you name it, you have to be rated for that aircraft.

no, its more than 2k to get your license. some people take longer to get it than others, but when your paying 85-100 an hour just for your privat license, and not to mention ground school, it adds up.

and hangars, well it all depends. is it only for your plane or are you going to be sharing. id say at least a couple hjundred a month

I know a little about this , your allowed to charge the passengers each an equal percentage of the flight(yourself included) with a Private.

Also, you can can get a student liescense when your 16 but cant get your privates till your 17 if I remember correctly(those tests were awhile ago)

ok as stated by the FARS: Student pilots may not carry passengers or cargo or fly for compensation or hire. Private pilot rating allows you to take passengers with you. If you really want to do any thing tho, go for your IFR or instrument rating, so that you may fly out side of the VFR conditions. While flying VFR you need to see the ground at all times, and if you do get into a cloud, you need to know how to get out of it at all times. If you find that you love flying and decide to make it a career, go to college. Most companies are not hiring any one without a college degree.

Embry riddle which is over ratted IMHO and is more of a name then a place of study. at any of these places you will recieve a top notch education, but KSU salina to me had the best resources. Also, we have the 3rd largest runway in thew USA and is the 3rd diversion or the space shuttle incase of an emergency. Let me tell you, 2 and 1/2 miles of paved bliss, is always nice to have. my brother took the pilot route, i took the A&P mechanic route. i dont know, maybe someday ill get my private. ive flown a couple times and loved it, i just didnt think being a career pilot would have been as much fun though.

There's also a 20 year waiting list (or something rediculous).

I'd suggest waiting until a few months before your 17th birthday. Have all the money saved up. Guesstimate $3000-5000 at a part 61 school (which is almost anywhere but a university). You want to fly as much as possible as often as possible to make the best use of your money. If you start to early...you'll be relearning the same stuff again once you are old enough to get your private (and paying for it).

k another question i got

well what i really want to do is fly helicopters...but ive talked to a few people and they say that its better to start on single eng props cuz u learn basic stuff that u should know or something? would it be better for me to start on props or go straight to helis? thanks for ur help
