I strongly disagree! The Iraqi's could have rolled quite a few countries. For Example: France!

How willing would you be to rise up against a dictator who tortured his soccer team for not winning in the Olympics? Or against a dictator who whould gas entire villiages? I belive that all humans desire freedom. However, you would be suprised at how few people have a live free or die philosophy. I think you would be surprised how few people in this country have that philosophy, let alone the middle east.
It came to a point in my life when it was either pay the rent or buy paintball gear. I think I made the wise choice. If anyoneone needs me I'm livin in a van down by the river.

yeah, those folks in Northern Iraq have never tried to overthrow Sadaam.... in fact, I believe the US under good ole billies administration said they would support them in an overthrow in the mid 90s then backed out, allowing them to be stomped by Sadaams army.

It was 1991, under George Senior.

But see, on one level the promised support was hypocritical, too. The Kurds of northern Iraq wanted to be free of Saddam, but also to be free of Iraqi, Iranian and Turkish dominance. They want a Kurdish state. How can you claim the moral high ground to help them throw off one of their overlords, while simultaneously supporting a second?

As a famous diplomat once said:
"Every country has the government which it deserves."

              Or Ben Franklin:
"Those who would sacrifice essential liberty for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Would I have risen up, in their place? Probably. I would have run north to join the Kurds.

Mango put in a reference to North Korea and no one even saw how clever he was with the ebay name. Mango even when you are serious you get no respect.

Why wouldn't he allow visits, he probably wanted us to think he had these weapons.
Germany did build the greatest military force in the world while everyone watched but noone wanted to do anything about it. The differance is now you can build a great military force right under the U.N. nose. At the time when Germany built its military you couldn't have enough firepower to kill 2 million people stored in the basement of your house,
If Saddam did allow the inspections to come up empty then Iran probably would of rolled over them.

I still knew he had them previously, which leads me to the conclusion that he either 1) used them all on his own people, or kurds 2) They moved across the border, sold to the highest bidder.

Actually though I agree here, Iran and Syria are definite places to start looking, then again so is Saudi Arabia

I could not help but recall this being like before WW2. After WW1 Germany had severe limits placed on its army and basically ignored the terms of that treaty. Was not Iraq ignoring the terms of the treaties at the end of the Gulf War similar?
Absolutely he was and what's even more interesting os to note the Churchiill repeatedly warned that Germany was violating the "regulations" yet no one listened to him until after Germany's first blitzkreig.

I'm glad that Bush did not follow that same path and took the fight to Saddam.

                    17 resolutions.

                    No weapons inspectors.

What else were we supposed to do?

Had Saddam allowed weapons inspectors to do their job then most likely he would still be in power but at least we would know that he did not have those weapons.
Return to the free market. Get rid of all government regulations and let society make it's own decisions. Time and again the relaxing of government regulations has increased profits, innovation and the economy.
