Graphic errors on screen, need help

    Here's my specs:

    P4 3.0
    Abit IC7-G MAXII ADVANCE i875P
    1GB Infineon PC3200 (2x512) 2.5-3-3-6
    ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 256
    Audigy2 ZS
    Thermaltake 480 PS
    Seagate IDE 7200 HD 8MB

A few days ago I started getting little "things" popping up on the screen in a game I was playing. I exited the game and they still happened in XP. Shut off the comp for a while and turned it back on, they came back after a while. Today the screen became so garbled a few seconds after loading XP that I couldn't see anything at all. I swapped out my monitor with an older CRT I have in the closet. Worked fine for a few hours, then the crap start coming up on the screen again. Any thoughts? I'm thinking graphics card, right?

crack open the case and make sure all your fans are running right.

I had similar issues when the fan on my graphics card died...

Yea, the little artifacts you are seeing are probably being created when your graphics card overheats. Open the side of the case and blow a fan in there, run your computer for a while and see if they go away. If they do then it'll determine if its a heat issue.

Maybe someone can PM me why my sig was tampered
with when my image is below 20 kb and was 350x159.(20435 bytes/1024 bytes per kb = 19.96 kb.)

have have the same thing happening to my 9700 pro all in wonder. I think it has to do with XP service pack 2, thats when i started having problem. I re-installed the drivers a few times and it didnt help. I even tried the omaga drivers.

i once had a geforce 4 work perfectly until xp was fully booted and then 'artifacts' would just take over the screen, it happened once with my radeon 9600se it was becuase i overclocked it to high, you might try to turn your clock settings down, either that or you may just have killed your card :-X

                While mango is correct...

I suggest checking for overheating, try underclocking your video card and or installing new drivers

Did you you completely uninstall your drivers & reboot before installing the latest ones? If not try that first, that can often cause problems. Although like sereral others have stated it sounds like your card is overheating. Specifically the ram, usually ram overheating gives artifacts & core overheating just crashes either the application or the whole thing from my experience. Also, try the card in another comp if you can to confirm it's actually the card and not just SP2 screwing with you.
