Actually, for someone going into the music industry, it'd prolly be a helpful course about how to judge talent and what wins public favor.

Well, if the course focuses on music critique it may actually be a very worthwhile course for somebody in the music program. Practicing theory on current material is a very effective way to teach and learn.
The couple of journalism/media courses I took involved crritiquing, analysing, and comparing current TV news broadcasts and the daily paper coverage. Very effective indepth courses.
