Typically it helps to just take a Q-Tip with some rubbing alcohol on it and clean the laser read-eye. I don't have a PS2 or any game system for that matter, but the last time I saw a PS2 it looked like it didn't have a traditional flip-up lid like on a portable CD player, so getting at the eye might be a bit more time consuming.

Yeah, it doesn't have a flip top, it's a tray like on a PC, they did it like that to help prevent people from using illegal games.

I had the usual "Disc read error" problem. I called them...45 min. later they said it's a 100 dollar fix. I'm just going to get that new ps2 that says they fixed the DRE problem.I knew not what I did but am now edumacatedComment

Yeah, I'm hoping they'll lower the price to $100 soon, or maybe I can find one that's in a package with some games or something for $150...

Awhile back there was some sort of Class Action lawsuit against Sony for the DRE's and apparently if you called and *****ed enough or mentioned that they would fix it for free. The white dial trick works too. I bought a broke PS2 off ebay, tried that and sold it for twice what I payed.Classic RT - RT02667
