    gee-tars

ive been looking into getting an electric guitar for christmas. i went to a sam ash store (big-arse music warehouse place if ur not familiar) with a friend. ive also talked to some kids at school and they agree that my decision is good for the music i want to play.

so, i want to play metal music (like metallia, slayer stuff)... and i dont really have a limit on the money available. so my decision was an esp viper 50 (or the viper 100). my friend has a line 6 one speaker 75 watt amp... and i was thinking about getting that. ive heard all + on the line 6 amps, but i dunno about the guitar. i could spend a little more.

oh yea, i dont want a fender.

    suggestions?

            Let's see......

            Paintball markers...yup

            Sneakers....yup

            Girlfriends....yup

            Automobiles....yup

Gee tars..........wouldn't you know it........yup again.

Ok, try this......play bunch in your price range and pick the one that feels and performs the best to you. :)

There really are no 'bad' guitars if you find you that looks well made, feels good to you and sounds good to you. I've played and unfortunately, in some cases, owned guitars costing MANY thousands of dollars and I can promise you, cost never guarantees a 'good' guitar if you don't like the feel or the build or the sound.

One of my favorite guitars of all time sold for under $300 new and I wouldn't sell it now for $3000.

You are the only judge that really matters.

            Jay.

Jimi Hendrix played a strat. I see nothing generic about him....it's not about the guitar you have that makes you a great player. Don't limit yourself because other people have the same guitar. But, if you don't want a fender, I won't pressure you into it. It's your choice, so don't let biased opinions effect your decision.

I have a weird feeling that an Epiphone Explorer would be a great guitar for you. A little bit more expensive. Other than that, ESP's are good guitars. Go with the 100 though. Also, try out some guitars with different types of pickups, there's a wide range of sounds out there. Amp wise, I recommend Crate. Great brand, and they are high quality amps for a low price. Of course, they're no Mesa's, but it's as close as I could get with the money. Just test out a lot of stuff...another thing to think about is comfort. Example: Strats are extremely comfortable. I can fall asleep on it. SGs, on the other hand, are only comfortable when standing up.

i totally agree with gama, those 20 people bought fenders for a reason.

I've had and played some pricey line 6 stuff and I was not impressed. For a guitar, I'd get a lower price import Jackson. I played an import Rhoads, forget which exact model but it was about $300 (only wanted to see if I could get a feel for the body shape), that I was very impressed with for the price. For an amp, it doesn't matter what cheap one you get. Get a mildly expensive one and either you'll stop playing and have wasted your money, or you'll get to the point where you want and should have a nice amp, but you can't justify spending it since the amp you have is ok.

Fenders are indeed good, if theyre OLD. Anything released from the current fender factory is not a true fender. After Fender got bought out, Leo Fender started G&L and they used the original machines and stuff that were use for the pre-CBS fenders, so they are more Fender than the new Fenders. Sorry, im done with my rant, I am just a G&L freak...

I myself play Les Pauls mainly, I have my 82 XRIII that i play for a main gutar, than i have the 98 les paul special for a back up. I play metal, and I love the sound.

But seriously, get the guitar YOU feel is the best.

personally as of right now, i dont play guitar, but i plan on getting one sometime in the future.

i have a fried who assembles guitar with custom parts for people whos is going to school right now to build violins and acoustic guitars. out of the around 50 guitars hes owned, he told me that his favorite is the BC Rich Gunslinger. he said the only guitar that he liked better was the 4 Les Pauls that he got to hold which totaled to over 5 million for the 4 of them.

when i get a guitar it will either be a BC Rich, or one of my friend's custom ones.

btw, heres a listing of several artists that use bcrich guitars, including a guy from slayer.

I tell this to everyone starting out,

                          start with a acoustic.

They are IMO much harder to play then electric, making you a better player quicker. No, you won't sound like your favorite rock band, but you probably never will. I know I don't and I've played for 10 years.

And yes, I do own an electric, a Fender Strat, but I don't nearly play it as much as my Martin. I love my Martin.

Very Nice Amp had one myself for a while and loved it.

Two Guitars I would suggest for Metal:

                            Gibson SG (Nice Deep tone)
Ibanez S Series ( Great tone and sustain...really crazy metal guitar)

and BOOO ESP I never had any luck with them...they may look kinda cool but I think they suck.

Also I play Steel Guitar too... Ill try and post a link to a hardcore song I played on it in a band a while back... really crazy lol.
