    What year eclipse?

I just replaced my '90 Talon AWD turbo with mods (read-moneypit!) last weekend and it was easy peasy. I would have kicked myself if I had paid my friend $20 to do it. I got the part for $35 at a junkyard w/ warranty for 90 days.

Remove AC fan (disconnect wiring connector and remove 3 retaining bolts-2 top, i below)

Remove + wire and ground wire.

Loosen tension adjuster and remove locking nut completely.

Remove nut for LONG bottom retaining bolt and pull bolt out compoletely.

Wiggle out alternator. Replacement is reverse of removal.
Sorry, Don't have AIM Doesn't mean I can't hit what I shoot at! :shooting:

I'm guessing you used a haynes manual?
Only idiots buy junkyard alternators, get a new one that will last you a while. I would figure the shop will rape you for an hour of labor plus whatever the part costs go to www.napaonline.com and look up the part cost, type alernator into the keyword search, click on the alternator selection then tell it what kind of car you have. Labor can be anywhere from $40-$80 an hour, usually closer to $80.

I could probably have my alternator replaced in under five minutes, pop the belt off it, 8 seconts, unbolt it, 40 seconts, remove wireing harness, 20 seconts, put new one on, a minute, wireing harness, 5 seconts, put belt back on, 20 seconts.

I don't have to take the entire belt off, just take the part that goes over the alternator off. The belt always wants to go back on, chevy did somthing right when they designed that serpentine system You just stick a 3/8 ratchet in the tesnsioner, turn it, and the belt is loose, put it back in, turn it put the belt back on, let go and the belt is tight. None of that annoying v-belt stuff.

                    Tools arn't expensive.
*counts the money he he spend in tools over the last 2 years
                    Damnit, they are.

Actually you can get a decent socket set for $30, wrench set for $40, if you need torx sockets those are $40. By the time you buy the tools your probably breaking about even for what they will charge in labor/tax, they pay for themselves the next time you use them, not the first time.

                      PyRo,

Do we know each other or do you make it common practice to call people you've never meet idiots. From your numerous posts on this topic alone I can only guess you are a opinionated loudmouth Just to prove YOU wrong, the alternator has been in the car for a week now and is driven 100 miles roundtrip cause it's my beater.

And to answer your question-NO you did not ASSume right that I used a Haynes manual. I have the factory repair manual for the '90 DSM's since I am now on my second DSM and would rather do the work myself since I am never happy with the work of other mechanics. Plus when I'm in there I typically find other stuff to fix.

                            dj89,

Who are you suppose to be? Pyro's lil' b...nevermine. Leave your address and I'll mail it to you when it hits 100K miles.

Price for a junkyard alternator: $35
                            Price for a "store-bought" alternator:$190-$217

I can see there is a lot of narrowminded individuals in this thread.

I see a post for a question about alternators and I offer help. Then I get called an idiot for trying to save some money (money that can go towards the another expensive habit-PB) So what if it lasts 10K miles. Back to the junkyard I go and neither of you will change my mind about that. I have 2 other cars I can fall back on.

Look up at the subheading of this thread guysFriendly Corner
