    Anyone own/use a Sony F828?

My digital camera bit the dust this weekend. I dropped it, breaking both the lens and the screen, and then in frustration I threw it out a moving car doing around 80 mph. The impact with the pavement finished off anything that may have still been functional.

In any case, I've been checking out the Sony F828, due the fact I think its a sweetass camera and I already have a bunch of memory sticks.

Has anyone out here used one, or own one?

    Any pros/cons?

I realize people have suggest other brands, but the fact I already own a bunch of memory sticks is making me want to stick to Sony.

Two things in particular Im curious about.

    1) Shutter speed. A lot of digital cameras seem to have horrible shutter speeds, making them absolutely useless for a lot of things. Being a "professional" grade digital camera (they call it consumer-professional grade or something), does this camera have shutter speeds comparable to normal 35mm cameras? (Anyone can read the numbers off the sites, but sometimes reality and marketing don't exactly mesh).

    2) Macro mode. I'm assuming it has the capability as Mango owned the Sony F717 and it had an excellent macro mode, I can't see their scrapping it in the next model but who knows.

I should be able to get an F828 for a decent price due to the fact they are being discontinued. Any input is appreciated.

heh, I did that with my phone a couples months ago because USCC is incapable of providing anything that resembles customer service. So I tossed it out the window and signed up with At&T. Best switch I ever made, even with the 150$ I had to pay uscc. Here's to that company dieing to the GSM and PCS Juggernauts cdma is outdated like platform shoes with gold fish

good rule of thumb with digital cameras is stick with companies that have always made cameras, since they use there own lenses and parts.

as for the sony f828 i have not personally used it so i wont comment
i have read many reviews on it and most do seem to be mostly positive though

i have a canon EOS 300D (ditital rebel) i love it, interchangable lenses, tons of features and settings.

Digital Rebel is a good bit more expensive than I was looking to spend. I don't really need a true SLR.

Plus, as I mentioned, I already have a buttload of memory sticks that will only work with another Sony camera.

The F828 has a severe purple fringe problem. The new Canon G6 is godlike.

If I pass on the F828, I'm going to go all-out and get a real SLR, maybe a Digital Rebel or something. I really need some decent zoom / telephoto capability for sports events. 4x optical doesn't cut it.

                from: www.pricegrabber.com

                Sony 828 = $764.95 to $1119.85

                Digital Rebel = $794.00 to $999.99

The 828 is a very good camera, However, I recommend the Digital Rebel. My friend has one and is extremely happy with it. note: I have a 20D so I'm a little biased

If you want a lot of zoom in a small package, take a look at the Canon S1 IS (it has 10X optical zoom and Image Stabilization!)

                price range = $314.00 - $514.79

J&C - The Digital Rebel doesn't come with a lens though, so you have to add a couple hundred onto that price

the digital rebel is sold in a package that includes a lens. not a great lens but a decent starter.
best buy obviously wouldn't sell cameras without lenses.
generally the lens is $100 when purchased with the camera.
