I just saw some recent iraq footage with a guy holding a Javelin but didn't fire it off. Just reminded me of this video i downloaded a while ago.

I was just discussing that video today. Something is wrong with it. The javelin is cool and all, but it really doesnt seem capable of reducing a tank to that little bit of wreckage that was left without some help, such as touching off the magazine.

well, they are shooting it at a russian tank that has an external fuel tank....could be the reason. Also javelins can be set so that they hit the tank from the top or under the turret, the weakest point of the tank. I'm sure if there were shells in the tank that would add to the explosion too.

Yeah but if I had one for next fourth of July they wouldn't think it was so funny to have the entire family launching bottle rockets at me.

that video has been classified as a hoax time and time again.. run it frame by frame and you`ll see. the maker of the movie has admitted that the tank was packed with tnt\c4.

and no, the external fuel tanks won`t do that to a tank..

However if that tank's autoloader was actually full of shells and propellant charges then that might happen. Russian autoloaders leave the ammunition exposed right above the turret ring and it is almost a certainty that any major penetration will detonate the ammunition, but still it does seem unlikely that the hull which is made up of armored castings welded together could be reduced to a crater by a detonation located atop of rather than within the hull.

Unfortunately like all light anti-armor weapons it is susceptible to damage/malfunctioning when air dropped too rough.
