    Some Photography

    Well, here are some photographs:

The ones up at McConnells mill are shot on 35mm transparency film with a Nikon N80 film SLR. Fujifilm Velvia 100. You don't really have a lot of exposure latitude on those, as evident in these shots.

The second gallery will still need some work, but I'm putting a few of my grandfather's images in it. Thanks. I believe it was Canon equipment on Kodakrome transparencies. Very old. Anyone remember the cardboard mounts?

Now, I just wish I had the means to scan my medium format images. Oh well. Maybe a good film scanner for Christmas.....

I'll scan some more in tommorrow that are very nice. Now to find the Moraine State Park ones. Those, and the ones currently shipped off to the lab of Seven Springs in Fall, are something.

Thanks for listening. I appologize for any bad compression artifacts.

I realize not all are keepers, but I have some interesting crops I'd like to do. I've just had too much darn turkey!

Interesting shots. Someone likes flowers and the sunset one is really good.

Here are a few from McConnells Mill

              now for some constructive critizism.

1- nice perspective, but that flower on the right has no stem(not litterally)! the close up on the left isnt that bad, but im sorry, that other one ruins the picture . the backround is very nice though.

2- once again, the blurred flower is so thin it looks distorted. i think it would look VERY nice if you didnt see the road, and just had the fence in the backround.

3- maybe more of whatever you have in the back left? possibly a house?

4- im not too worried about the blurred stem on the right, as it doesnt look too distorted. maybe if you really just focused on that hole in the flowers on the left, have that as your object of focus, possibly a little off center.

all of what i said was just to provoke some thinking, no need to take any of it seriously

i think the one piece of advice thatll work best for you, is to just have fun, it looks like your trying hard, just click away at whatever sparks your imagination

Thanks for the constructive criticism. Here are two very nice ones I did for a company.

So, how do you like that Olympus digital camera?

Anyhow, a few things. I used the 90% method (using the sticker and a large pebble as my main points) to clean up the image. Then, I converted it to an sRGB color space. A bit better. Also, take a look at the histogram of the image.

While you can always change the image on the computer, it's ALWAYS better to get it right when your there taking the shot.

For anyone interested in that method:

I was at one of his seminars recently up at Filmet. Very knowledgeable. I especially like to use the BTF Scanner Dust spotting to get rid of dust on neg scans.

So, what do you think of the changes.

Glickman: Where's that critique on the two I posted??

Muz: I'd assume you shot the waterfall digitally.

How many tries did it take to get the exposure just right to get the silky look.

Yeah the fall was digital. It took two shots. I shot one at 1 second and one a 1.5 seconds. When I got home I chose the 1 second shot.

Coming from the film world I still shoot like I use film. Though it is nice to know you did not waste film when those shots did not come out.

                            Yeah....

If Nikon would ever get a D100 replacement out, I'd jump on it in a second. Till then, maybe I'll get a used D100. Or just keep shooting film.

In the end, all that matters is the print. Nothing more, nothing less.

Of course the technology game is just too much fun to play....

What did you think of the two cemetary shots I scanned in?

                            Thanks again.

As always though, excellent shots in your gallery. Ever shoot the Cucumber Falls and the Slides up at Ohiopyle? I like your Falls race shots though...

Good shots. They look a little flat. I would run a little unsharp mask on them.

I am not sure why, but there is a haze in the upper edge of the one (top part of the building). I assume that is a natural haze and not some photo processing issue.

Both of them also would have been much cooler if it was a nice day (blue sky) but obviously, not every day can be perfect.

As often as I have been down to Ohiopyle I have only had camera in hand twice, both for the falls race the past two years. Any other time I am down there it is to hike or kayak. So, in short, no, no shots of Cucumber falls yet.
