    Thats right. What it plugs into. Like 120V is normal socket power. Its for like 3/16 inch deep stuff. So you "can" weld like maybe 1/4" stuff or a tad more... by going at it from both sides. But if you want deeper penetration (heh... I said deeper penetration) you want to go 220V. I don't think you can convert very easily from 120V to 220/240V. You can go the other way... but expect the loss in ability similar to what is described. Most people in small shops and doing small jobs not need to weld over 1/4" steel though. But some do I guess...

    So it realy depends on what thickness you are going to deal with. And what power is available for it.

    Don't forget Hobart. They make about the largest rated 120V unit that I see. And normaly make some pretty good stuff.


    AGD, where we are so good we can do it with only ONE tube!
