There is no perfect way to decide who plays in the national championship game... Some team always gets screwed, every year, no matter what the system is... I personally don't see a better system than the BCS... At least the BCS does take into account strength of schedule, and quality wins... Granted, it's far from perfect, but I just can't see a better way... Strictly going by the coaches' and USAToday/ESPN polls never worked because they were always (and still are) biased toward some teams...

I completely agree w/ Phil, and believe you me, I HATE Auburn..Hell, I'm a Tennessee fan...But man, AU's getting the shaft. BigTime.

For those of you who didn't read Phil's comments, AU should be there because: Much tougher schedule, better all around team, and best of all they don't have the media living in a certain orifice.

You don't have to admit it. It's a fact. Strength of schedule apparently does not have enough weight in the computer rankings. Starting out with a number one ranking appears to negate it. Crawling up from 17 and going undefeated against a more than twice as hard a schedule as either OU or USC seems not to be enough to overcome it. I should think it should. I am no Auburn fan either... but I got to hand it to them. They did it.

trying to imply that although I went to SC, I just did in fact admit they had a fairly weak schedule.

As to what we were discussing;

OU was ranked #1 preseason last year, right? I think that was a factor in keeping them in the Orange Bowl, even though they lost their conference game.

It's hard, which team do you drop? I think that SC tends to do better in coaches and AP poll, and OU had a stronger schedule...

I remember last year, SC was coming strong late, and the bids went to the teams that had been ranked highest longer, i.e OU despite the loss. That may be a factor as well.

my post was a joke too . and i have watched most of the sport shows like cold pizza, PIT, around the horn ect and most say that Aurbur should be playing. they aslo say in there lost game if they did not let the other team come back they would be playing for a national championship. i still think that they should be playing b/c they have played better teams.

Ok im gonna see if i can understand what youre saying. Auburns "last" game? How many times this season has USC had to come back or had really close games. I mean they pretty much lost to Oregon State. Auburn didnt blow out Tennesee, but i dont think that should count agianst them.

yea i ment last. i dont remember who they played but they were up by alot and then the other team started to come back. and some of the sport writers say if they kept that team from making a comeback that they would be playing for the national championship. just have them play like the NFL with a playoff. this should solve everything....

Well no... I don't think so. I don't think it was predicted to help them at all. It was at that point a given that it could not overcome anything without either OU or USC losing. And in fact USC struggled to win thier game against UCLA as well. OU played lowly Colorado for their final game.

Remember now that Auburn was playing Tennessee in the SEC Championship game and they won. I mean its Champion against Champion in an extra game. Its supposed to be close. Not to mention the only time Tennessee finaly tied it up in the game its was a trapped ball and should not have been a score but... well it was called such so.... its done...They both are their division champs! The best of each division. Hardly a typical last game. But I believe Auburn still won by like 10 points.

Isn't the SEC Championship the rough equivalent of Big Ten, Pac Ten, etc. etc. ? How is it Champion against Champion? OU and SC didn't win their conferences? I think I am missing something, wouldn't that make Auburn the SEC Champs?

USC beat UCLA for the Pac-10 title

Auburn also won, but, got snubbed, thats just the way it goes i guess, you can argue for each team, i hate OU but im glad to see them in for the big 12.....even tho this year the big 12 was a WEAK conferance.

but here is the real question, why is anyone surprised.....USC and OU have been top to for how long? and USC and OU have been ahead of Auburn in the BCS rankings...
