Kinda sad to be embarrassed to admit your nationality. For someone in another part of the world to meet an American and automatically assume that this person supports Bush and all he stands for (or Kerry and all he stands for) is pretty closeminded, but I'm sure it happens all the time. I'd hate like hell for someone to believe that Jean Chretien or Paul Martin represent my feelings and beliefs just because I'm Canadian.
You should be proud of where you live regardless of who's running the country, if you can't be proud of where you live, then perhaps it's time to move to somewhere you can be proud of.

And even though they're both wankers and I can't understand how their party could possibly be elected yet again, I'm still proud to be Canadian and I'd never pretend to be anything else. I'd imagine the vast majority of Americans would feel the same way and would feel pretty lame pretending to be Canadian when they travel abroad.

you know, i am proud to be an american, even though i may have to dispute some of the politics going on fron now and again, but there are sometimes, that you do need to pretend to not be from the US. and it is scary

As most of you all know, i spent a year in chile, greatest year ever, until shock and awe and the whole iraqui conflict. while i was down there, and especially when we traveled into argentina, i had to pretend i was a canadian, or i risked public humiliation, or physical wounding. when ever i spoke in english in these countries to my friends, if a bystander asked where i was from, i would have to throw a canadian accent on and say canada. for my own saftey. there are reasons behind this some times, and it is just sad that our world is like that

Why? I have nothing to hide from Europeans, I'm American. Unfortunatly the reason why europeans complain about American politics is because their own politics are hopelss. And I'm not even joking either.
