im reminded of the southpark episode where they go to afghanistan, and in order not to get killed they say they are canadian, but cartman would rather be taken hostage than say hes canadian
Now, this may be going too far...

Do you realise how many countries you have just attacked with that unfounded statement?Originally posted by bornl33tWhy? I have nothing to hide from Europeans, I'm American. Unfortunatly the reason why europeans complain about American politics is because their own politics are hopelss. And I'm not even joking either.
I get frustrated when I am in Canada by being accused of being Australian! Once I even got asked if I was French in a bar! Now that was funny.Comment

The main people who say I sound Australian are the cab drivers but then you know who the cab drivers are so perhaps it isn't too bad a comparission
The person who thought I was french was a canadian from the north and was a peeler so you can't accuse them of having an enlightened or expansive (not a typo) education or they wouldn't be doing a job like that especially as the prices I was paying were not top dollar so you can't say it was a well paid job over a professional trade.Originally posted by MayAMonkeyBeYourPinataOhh the French.

Many of our "ethnic dancers" are working to pay their university tuition! But as someone who comes from the north, many people never meet foreigners, and can't tell them apart. Maybe you sounded like ST:TNG's Captain Picard, who is supposed to be French.Originally posted by MarkM...

I saw an article in the paper this morning, I had to laugh at it.
I agree with cartman, you shouldn't have to be ashamed, because of an ofiliation to your country's leadership. However, you do need to see that Bush has inevitably alienated himself and unfortuantely his country in the process. This is neither right nor wrong but it happens, it's human nature to place blame, and unfortuantely the United States of America got thrown into the situation in the middle east, even if they didn't want anything to do with it.
Now, as far as the T-shirts and other stuff, this isn't a new idea. I have heard of Americans using Canadian items to help mask their nationality while visiting abroad. It's not that they wanted to hide the fact that they are American, they just want to avoid any harrassment by some of the people in those countries. Canada has been known for some time to be peace keepers, and this reflects in the world's eyes, and views.
You wanted my opinion, there it is EH

Jeff we have met...do I sound like Jean Luc?Originally posted by Jeffy-CanConMaybe you sounded like ST:TNG's Captain Picard, who is supposed to be French.
On sideways thing Jean Luc Picard is an englishman through and through...the name history I must have missed that episode but I do remember many references to ancestors having fought at Waterloo etc on the english side...and a more extreme side note the actor who plays Jean Luc is from the north of england had developed how he speaks to hide his northern accentComment
