AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
If an American hooked up with a Canadian and moved there which would they be???
Oh wait never mind. They would just be known as a Democrat, either trying to get outta the draft, or one that stuck to those promised words "If Bush is elected then I am moving to Canada".
Wait what if your republican and did the afor mentnioned?
"You are wonderful, whitty, and wise, but you spend to much time reading this sort of TRASH."
Wow! I just posted this for the humor I found in the article.
Speaking as a U.S. National living in a foriegn country, in the end there are not a lot of ways to hide your nationality. Mostly because of the subtle differences in accents, speech patterns, etc.
That and we tend to be a lot taller in this part of the world (Turkey).
But as it stands, the floks here are used to us and the way we act. I guess that it could just be that they have been around Americans for so long that the differences in culture do not bother them as long as you respect their culture. (I felt like a real idiot offering a Turkish friend of mine a soda during the first week of Ramadon, but he just said that he was fasting and that if I was still there after sun set he would have a coke with me then.)
But, I will say that it is easy to see how easily we can be resented, case in point: A few months back I was at my favorite reataurant right off base enjoyinh dinner. During this I was talking with one of the waiters and he was asking me how much I make a month. I feel it is impolite to duscuss things like this especially over dinner, so I told him that I made enough to get by. He told me that he makes about $25 a week. Which, in this part of the world, is enough to get by on. But to think that I will go off base on a Friday and spend $100 on boozing. So in a sense I just spent a months pay, for him, on boozing. In one night. So I could see just how easy it would be for some folks to resent us.
But at the same time, hiding who your are is just strange to me. Mostly because I never think that I would have to do that. Every week we get briefed on what to avoid and what may happen and how to aviod it. Maybe I've just been sheltered, but I have found that most poeple are as indifferent to us as we are to Canada. But, like I said, maybe I have been sheltered.
Another interestng thing is that we are briefed to NOT wear things like that shirt, or thing of that nature that would further set us apart from the crowd. I know, it's not like our accents, mannerisms, physical appearance, hair color, clothings, etc. doesn't set us apart enough.
I guess that what I am saying is that no matter where you go, people will know "You ain't from around here."
Giant flying dogs are gonna give you a flame-thrower enema!!!
