    intresting quote: terrorism

Background: I am working on my thesis, lit review, and I found this cool article about opertunity cost v. material cost of terrorism. One such way to deter terrorism:

"persons inclined to terrorist ideas and actions can be invited to visit foreign countries. Universities and research institutes, for example, can offer such persons the opportunity of discussing thier ideology with intellectuals. The guests may, moreoever, pursue thier own studies. It is to be expected that the confrontation with liberal ideas existing in such places of learning will mellow thier terrorist inclinations" (frey and luechinger,2003).

    What do you guys think?

Its a nice idea, but how do you seperate them from violence?

Don't you think if you allowed these people easy access to our country at least some of them wouldn't try to commit acts of terrorism before they were "re-educated"?

      Too tree-hugger.

These people seem to think everyone wants to be a college liberal.....and that if you are exposed to it, you will join in. HA. I'm not even a terrorist and I don't even hate these people and I don't want to be a college liberal.

I can see it now though.....

UC-Berkeley was destroyed today when 300 guest "would-be-terrorists" suicide bombed the campus.
      BLOODY MURDER!

If the person is already espousing support for terrorist ideals, you don't want him in your country.

But on the other hand, were the west to setup a few schools to competewith the hate teaching schools run by the various Islamist terrorist sects in Pakistan, Afganistan, and elsewhere you'd stand a fair chance of fighting the hatred and stopping terrorism before it begins.

Help raise the various populations out of the abject poverty and hopelessness they find themselves in and then they wouldn't be lead to beleive the terrorist recruiters either.

It's similar to fighting crime. THose that have commitetd a crime need punished, but to stop the cycle of crime you need to identify the root cause and stop it before it grows into someone committing crime.
