    Mini Turtles

Hey Guys...Do any of you know where to get or even the species of those small turtles that are under 4". I think they are illegal in some areas because they naturally produce salmonella. Anyway my girlfriend wants one for christmas and I told her i'd try to find her one. Thanks alot.

Aren't they just babies? Never heard of "mini" ones.

Keep in mind that they have a longer life span than humans. I recommend reading every thing about them before purchasing one.

I think it comes down to the state as to whether they are legal to sell as pets or not, at least that's the way it is in VA. Salmonella(sp?) became an issue when people in the past kept them as pets in small containers and didn't keep them clean and then handled them. They do live long but are one of if not the messiest reptile/amphibian pets there are. Of course proper care will be needed for them to live a long time, and you for that matter. Overall pets are a bad gift idea. Your girlfriend thinks they are cute because she doesn't have to take care of one The novelty will wear off fast.

A good point, she shouldnt just want one becase they are cute. Having pets can be a big responsability.

Ok thats good, I would suggest looking for care sheets online for the turtle(s) you want to get.

I used to have a few red eared sliders. Yes they are very small and very cute at first but they can get up to like 12" from personal experience, but thats a while down the road.
You also need a special light doo dad otherwise their shell gets soft and brittle.
