    Need help with Cali smog laws

    Hi all. I've been checking out this blazer thats in New mexico. Its a 74 k5 my qquestions are this, is it smog exempt? And will i have trouble with being from out of state?thanks for any info.
    also anyone know if theres a way to rent a truck in NM and drive it back?driving all the way there and back with a trailer doesnt sound fun(well it does but...).im thinking one of those big all flatbeds that ive seen used for tow trucks.

    No, anything post-73 is NOT Smog exempt.

      an easy rule of thumb: if it has ANY smog equipment on it, follow emissions laws.

        Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles, electric and natural gas powered vehicles, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or vehicles 30 model years old or older. Starting April 1, 2005, the smog exemption for vehicles 30 model years old or older will end. After that date all 1975 and older vehicles will be exempt from smog certification requirements.
        Smog inspections are required when you register or renew registration for a vehicle in California, but there are some exceptions.


        1974 will be over 30 years old in less than a month. Out of state may still be a problem, though the CA DMV has been chastised not long ago for raping out of state vehicle owners.
