    window tint removal

    hey guys.

    need some advice on how to remove tint.
    i've got that cheap purple crap that the previous owner put on. my car goes off to tint tomorrow afternoon(13th) and i need to have this stuff taken off before then.

    the company will charge $5 a window and $35/hr. on the back window. i've got a 4 dr. car.

    i thought if it's easy enough and almost risk free, i'll do it myself.


    what things do i need to take into consideration??

    such as:
    weather - it's really cold now, but we have a heated garage
    tools
    etc..
    ???

    or do you guys think i should just pay the extra and have them do it?
    they charge $160 on a 4 dr. car for everything but the windshield.

    any advice is appreciated.

      Easiest way is to do it when its warm or hot outside. Go to the car with some ammonia based cleaner and spray it onto the windows. Close car up and let it soak in, should peel right off with not much of a mess. granted the car will smell like amonia.

          just use a razor blade to peel a corner off, and then go slowly from there. and yes, make sure it's hot outside when you do it, makes it much easier for the tinting to come off

              Crowbar, who needs windows?
              Anyways, if none of the above work (which i doubt), try some of that "Mildew/Soapscum Remover".

                      everything went pretty well.

                      didn't scratch any windows and all the residue came off nicely.

                      however, i think i'm gonna leave the back window to the tint shop. i don't want to screw up any defroster lines.

                          Good idea, wouldn't that be fun if you did it yourself and then had to replace the whole defrost unit.

                                  wow....it made a HUGE improvement. the last 3 windows came off in 1-3 pieces as well as the 1/4's - without having to worry about the frit.

                                      A heat gun is a blow dryer times 10 though, that tint doesn't stand a chance with that thing

                                          very true, but the only heat guns we had were in my dad's companies vans - which were on the job....far away.....unreachable
