No.Originally posted by Ninhydrinas long as its adjustible you can get any sound you want.
Every BOV Blitz, Apex'i, GReddy, HKS and TIAL all have distinct signatures. It's basically a marketing thing. BOV all do the same thing they just make different noises. Also boost and CFM change the sound.
Adjustability on BOV have more to do with running large amounts of boost and CFM keeping the BOV from creeping and letting out pressure.
The HKS SSQBOV is a pull type and less prone to being pushed or forced open. It's really not a big problem since most cars are not generating that much boost on the street.
That sound "chh chh chh" noise is kinda a good/bad thing. My old Blitz one did it when the adjustment screw was backed out all the way. It was the bov fluttering open and closed which isn't really a good thing....basically it wasn't doing its job. Sometimes that noise is also due to compressor surge.
It's the air in your piping hitting the closed throttle plate, bouncing back and hitting the turbine fins creating a chopping flutter sound. That's also not a good thing. Not something that will really damage your car at your performance level.
I'm pretty sure you can get the sound you want with the SSQBOV tightened all the way in. Usually the SSQBOV has a ear piercing scream though.
My favorite BOV was the HKS Racing. Only recomended for high boost and cfm cars but the thing sounded intimidating as hell.Comment

As far as the CA/SR debate goes I just see way more parts available to the SR. Not saying that there are not parts for the CA. Also remember a reason why the CA is cheaper is because there were used in the oldest model of the 180sx/240sx.
I have the HKS GOODS MASTER which has every part that HKS Japan makes for JDM cars. Given you can find cams for the SR and CA. HKS does not make exhaust manifolds for the CA unless you buy a complete Turbo kit. Even that is limited to one kit which is the GT2510
While for the SR you can buy manifolds separate for either a T4 or GT25. As well as kit using GT2510, GT2530, GT2540, GTS-R, and GT2835.
Since the S13 SR was used from 91-98 compared to CA 88-90 there were just so many more parts tested on it.Comment

As for the BOV, you are probably thinking of the HKS. I'm prone to the Apexi Twin Stage though. Too bad my car doesn't vent into the atmosphere, it re-circ's, so no cool sound for me.
Leatherpants, you tha man.
PS: My friend just got an rb26dett in his s14 and it's much faster than any sr or ca i've ever ridden in. Almost no lag at all and it boosts hard until the red-line. But it's deff. more expensive if you are going for price. The STI will still smoke it

Hahah It's true it is more fun with the RB. Problem is that it has so much torque that you just loose the rear end. Again fun but not balanced.Originally posted by pputkowskiPS: My friend just got an rb26dett in his s14 and it's much faster than any sr or ca i've ever ridden in. STI screw that get the ultimate sleeper. Subaru Forester. Pretty much same motor as the STI, faster than a stock WRX and you can fit all your paintball gear in the back. HAHAH.Comment
