AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
I got the 80 min Series 2. I actually need more space, or a video DVD burner. Tivos are a great thing, but at the same time, if you have digital cable, look into the DVR's from the cable company and if you have a Dish, look into the Direct TV receivers with the built in Tivo.
If you have comcast, or even another cable company, you may want to see if they offer the DVR in your area. I have the 2nd generation DVR box from Comcast and I can record something liek 60 hours of TV, I can watch one while recording the other, and it's only an extra $10 a month (with no need to buy a box)
I have digital cable, so I looked into the DVR, but they couldn't even answer my basic questions. So I sort of gave up on that. Adelphia is kind of lame.
Do you order a lot of pay-per-view? Do you use any special features from the cable company (such as Comcast's On-Demand)...I don't know if Adelphia has anything like that. If so, Tivo might be a pain for you. If not, it's perfect.
Tivo is one of those things that once you got it, you can't watch TV without it. I support the Tivo brand 100%, but at the same time, for me having Comcast, I miss out on a lot of the "cool" stuff that the digital cable offers me...but it's worth it.
Also...with Tivo you either need a phone line close by, or an internet connection. This is how they get the programming. Currently I have my Tivo hooked up to my wireless network. This works great, so if you already have a Wi-Fi network in the house, buy a USB Wireless adapter at the same time as the Tivo and save yourself a lot of trouble deeling with the phone line.

No, we don't watch a lot of pay-per-view or any of the special features. We don't even watch alot of TV, but when we do, we like to watch pretty specific programs. So that's kind of what steered me towards Tivo.
I've got a phone line and a broadband close by. So that shouldn't be too difficult. Does the 80 hours actually come out to 80 hours of viewing? Or is it actually less because you'll have the option to record at a higher quality?
bulldog there are a lot of features that replay TV's have that tivo's dont...please contact me on AIM and i can poitn some out to you. The latest Tivo Series 3(i think) has taken out the commercial skip technology which really ruins the purpose)
Buying the WIFE a Tivo riiiiiiiiiiight. I get ya.
Good boy, and I am sure she needs a new paintball gun, fishing reel, hunting rifle, bowling ball combo pack.

A friend has one of the replayTV's and I like my Tivo much better. Yes the ReplayTV might have some features the Tivo doesn't but the Tivo also has some features that ReplayTV doesn't.
My VCR allows me to watch shows at my convience, as well as pause, rewind, and fastfoward. All this for a one time fee of $20, seems to kick Tivo's butt for the money
Pryro, maybe, but can you tell your VCR to record any show that might have to do with "Paintball", or any other key word and automatically record it for you?
