Someone told me its in the works to make .50 cals illegal to buy soon. Better pick one up quick if you want one. Makes my new .243 look like a BB gun.Comment

There is a gunshoot in Maine that I go to it is every year up in Dover-Foxcroft, near the paintball feild i go to. Anyway, they shoot things from water coolant guns, to thomsons, to m-60's to 50 cals. I have gone two years in a row and have been able to shoot a m-16, mp5, and a thomson. My dad got shoot a M-60 on a bipod. This year they even had an anti-aircraft gun, i believe it was a dual 20mm cannon and that was sweet. They had a flame thrower this year too, that was pretty cool to see. They shoot it in a sandpit at old cars and vans, and they have explosives set up along the cars and on sticks so when people hit them it adds to the show. And half way through the day they shoot this big cannon i can't remember what type, like a 60mm or something. anyway it is fun to go and watch these amazing weapons being fired and being able to fire some of them. They also have displays of guns that you can buy and other military relating things in tents. If you love guns and are near maine I suggest taking a ride up. It is a 3 day affair and is usually in august i think. Here is the website:
check it out, dont forget to look at the pictures of the shoots...i think you'll like it.

I am pretty sure i heard somewhere that they have banned the use of .50 caliber bullets on human beings because it is considered "inhumane." That doesnt really make much sense because in war isnt the objective to win and dont you have to kill your enemy to do this, so wont they die anyway?Comment

The Geneva convention prohibits the use of anything over .60 cal in an anti-personnel role. However the Geneva convention only applies to wartime and most of our current military actions are "police actions" and so not covered. Counter-terrorist units, special forces and other unusual para-military forces frequently disregard the provisions of the Geneva convention.
As for .50 cal; ya they're trying to ban it, just like everything else. And everything I've found says its A-OK to use on humans (well maybe not A-OK but no worse than anything else).Comment

Actually, it was the Hague Protocols of 1927.
The Browning .50 MG was initially designed as an anti-tank weapon for WWI, but was introduced way too late to be accepted by Ordnance. Further trials convinced Ordnance to add it to the US Army inventory in 1923. The Swedish 20mm Bofors Cannon and British 20mm Boyes Rifle were also introduced during this time. Germany already used a heavily modified Mauser rifle, firing a 20mm armor piercing shell, during WWI.
The Hague Protocols was established to outline the "humane" commitment of warring parties, as technology advanced weaponry on an unprecedented scale. These protocols established the use of what weapons were to be used for what purpose. The anti-tank role of weapons was relegated to just that; only to be used against equipment and materials other than personnel.
Well, needless to say, the protocols are easily overcome by normal usage of nearly any weapon system. The .50 BMG is simply used against that equipment that each soldier carries with him, on him, or near him. You are still following the protocols when you shoot an enemy soldier through his helmet...
