Letter to me from a virginia senator

Well about november 21st, our social studies teacher had us type a letter to the senator regarding the war in Iraq, how we felt about it and such. I did't actually think the senator would write back to me, but he did. This is only the first page out of 5, do not really feel like typing all five but heres the first page.

Dear Cody: Thank you for contacting me regarding the war in Iraq. I appreciate your input and value the oppurtuinity to respond to your concerns on this important matter.

I stand with the president in his resolve to protect the American people. Our continued fortitude and support, litterally, is a matter of life and death-for both our military and the Iraqi people.

As you may know, i supported the President's supplement budget request to appropiate and allocate the necessary funds for the safety of our troops and the sequential steps toward civil government for Iraq. I believe that the funds appropiated for reconstruction, law enforcement, border security, telecommunications, health, housing and other infrastructure are appropriate. I believe that we cannot waiver in our support of our troops nor forsake the people of Afghanistan and Iraq.

The rest he wrote was all the stuff that we have done in Iraq, ex. help schools religions freedom etc.

But this is what really makes me respect this senator.
/Quote Thank you again for taking the time to contact me. If you would like to recieve an emal newsletter about my initiatives to improve America, please sign up on my website (http://allen.senate.gov). It is an honor to serve you in the United States senate, and I look forward to working with you to make Virginia and America a better place to live, learn, work and raise a family. With warm regrets, i remain

    Sincerely, George Allen /Quote

A lot of those letters are off the shelf. Meaning, ask your class mates that had a similar stance on the war if they got the same letter.

It is cool of your teacher to get you involved in writting your congress/senate. It's something that a lot of people are afraid to do. Once you realize that many of them atleast take the time to read what you write, it makes it easier when you really need something from them.

Muzik, I wouldn't go so far as to give credit to the elected officials to reading all the mail/email and listening to all the phone messages, etc.. I believe much of that is done by their aides.

i still think its pretty cool though, im just happy i got some type of reply, rather it was directly from him or his aides like someone else said its the thought that counts.

I've written letters to Congressman Goodlatte before and he has personally called me back. It really seems to depend on the official and such.

Ya, obviously if the person your calling is your Rep in the state house you have a better chance of a personal response, from your US Senator.

Writing is the best way to get a congressperson's attention is to write. They seem to take notice of you then.

                            Or maybe just their staff.
