With reasonable suspition they can stop you that's it, you can tell them you don't feel like talking to them and be on your way. They might be able to run your license and check your reg/insurance too.

If a cop wants to pull you over, he can there is always a reason.

If you look underage and you shouldn't be driving, that is reason enough to pull you over. He isn't being a jerk he is enforcing the law. The people you should be directing your anger towrds are the ones who made the curfew. When you turn 18 you can vote for somone in favor of removing it.

                Same in NYS.

Also If they ask if they may search the vehicle, a warrant is not needed however your permission is. We studied cases where a driver was pulled over and his glovebox contained marijuana and the significance of the case was did the police have permission to search your car (although on state property such as a city street). The case was tossed. Granted this was in CA, and the law isnt grown in the field of corn any more.

if the cop asks you to do anything, you dont have to.

the only thing you have to do for the police when they pull you over is give them your lisence and registration.

also, if they ask you to step out of the car and you do, i think that gives them right to search it.

I dont believe it does. But thats not the matter at hand so I wont get too involved in finding if Im right or wrong. However those may be the only things you have to do, but It sure makes a better impression if you follow other instructions within reason. Dont go plead' the fifth if he asks you whether or not you knew you had a taillight out.. ya know etc

the law is the law. if your breaking it he's not being a jerk, he's doing his job.

dont break the law and you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

do i speed/break laws? sure i do but I wont be complaining if i get caught either.

i love people that get mad at the police for giving them a speeding ticket.
