102" HD Plasma...

I've heard that Plasma TV's aren't that great. After a year or so the picture starts to get not-so-good (for lack of a better word). Not to where it would be immidiatly noticable but if you put it next to a new one you could tell the differance.
We went over this in science class and I cannot remember exactly what happens but plasma is the 4th phase of matter which is what happens when it is stripped of electrons. Over time it breaks down, gains electrons from somewhere, or does somthing (I cannot remember). Feel free to correct my lack of science skills.

In all honesty, it's just a bloody TV. For myself, I prefer front projection when watching movies.

In my basement I have a 92" DaLite screen with a Sony HS10 HD Projector. Simply beautiful....

Rich, vibrant, accurate color. Great sound. Good times. Also, about 200-300 DVD's and around a thousand VHS tapes form the past decade(mostly WWII War movies).

Aura Base shakers under the seats. Full 6.2 surround sound, with high quality components. Basic acoustic treatments. In all honesty, it is awesome. Acoustically calibrated, and the video, too! Although I'm planning on renting a Milori Colorimeter one of these days to do some better work.

All done on a budget. A very tight one at that, and very methodically planned. For a 100 times less than what this TV will retail for.

Honestly, for what this would cost, one could go for an entire dedicated home theater, with top-of-the-line components(although not Krell, Meridian, or Runco...) Why not? It's worth it.....

Although I wouldn't mind a few of those around the house. Along with a dedicated HT.

Also, remember that size is NOT the end all, be all thing. Color rendition and video quality is! For instance, I went with a 92" instead of over a 100" in order to get that quality. I have no doubt that most(by most as in the best) 60" plasmas are probably better quality than this monster....

I would rather have a projector for larger screens. I dont see the point of a huge tv like that. It would just be a status symbol to me.

Why I agree with the idea... how would having 8" more make that much different in color rendition? Brightness I can see But color?

A fellow audiophile and videophile. I am moving to a new house, and I'd love to do a front projection system in the basement, especially since I can build the acoustical treatments right in from the beginning. What are you running for speakers.

Sadly I had to go with a set of Klipsch speakers for the fronts and some AIM in-celiings in the rear due to budget constraints. However, i'd love to, in the future, go for in-wall Triad Silvers, and a microperf Stewart Grayhawk. One can only dream.....

Eight inches isn't THAT big of a difference, HOWEVER, I did say over. As in a 115" etc. The total screen brightness is brought down, along with a few other things. In a nutshell, you'd also lose the freedom to place your audio gear, acoustical treatment, and a few other things. Not only that, but I find my sweet spot about 1.5-1.6 screen width away. The average is about 1.5.

Also, you do realize that with that plasma, your going to sit about 150" away from the screen. Right. That's a little over 12 foot.
