PS2 - network cable vs. phone cable

I just received a PS2. I have DSL. What is the different purpose or functions of the network cable vs. the phone cable?

Do I use the network cable separate from the phone cable?

I plan to use the phone cable for playing on line.

Network Cable is for high speed online gaming like Cable, DSL, or something along the line of a T1 or T3 line. You can plug the phone cable into the PS2 if you want to play at 56k, but there is not much to do as far as 56k online gaming for the PS2. Just go broadband and plug in a network cable to play. If you need to split your internet connection up so you can use the computer at the same time just buy a router. Linksys are good brands, you can find them at just about any office store, or Best Buy has realy good deals.
