That has nothing to do with widescreen or full screen.

Full screen movies are formated for normal ration TVs. If you put a full screen movie on a HDTV you will still get a full screen format film.

Widescreen films are exactly how you see them in the theatre. A full screen movie typically cuts things out or pans a frame. You miss out on alot of what the director or DP intended for a film when you buy a full screen format DVD.

Always get widescreen unless you really don't care about movies.

              LeatherPants,

I think what RP was getting at was the fact that many people hate the "letterbox" bars on the TV. These people would rather get the full screen versions, but then they don't realize what they are missing.

Ok, thanks for opening the floodgates.

With Fool's Screen, you are cropping off, approximately 33% of the picture. However, that's not TOO bad, because nothings SUPER important there, right? Oh yeah, quite often you see stuff the director did NOT want you to see.

See what you lose? Yeah, it's in spanish..... http://www.artstudiomagazine.com/

Now, why do they keep selling them? Because it's named FULLSCREEN. IF anything, that's what widescreen should be called. So the parents, unimformed as they are, think "Hey widescreen MUST mean less picture then! Let's get fullscreen so Johnny can se it the best way possible!" Between this, edge enhancement, Original Aspect Ratio troubles, and a few other things. Th studios are SCREWING home entertainment over! Muz, think USM halos for an entire movie. It's bad...

                    Sales:
The Widescreen versions of the films are usually above the Fullscreen on the chart. On a genre movie, like Lord of the Rings or Chronicles of Riddick the difference seems to be more pronounced, while on a more "mainstream" movie (Starsky and Hutch, etc.) the WS and FS versions are right beside one another.

I watch on a 100" projection screen in my home theater(nothing like those over at AVS, like Art though). To be honest, the widescreen format actually helps with the enjoyment. It's worth it.

YES there you go. Finally a visual for full screen people to understand. We used to show people the same movie running at the same time side by side full/wide. There would be amazed at what the cropping and the pan/scan does the change the feel of a movie.

exactly. I didn't say anything about HD TV anyway.

The reason I hear most often for people that get the full screen or pan and scan full screens is that they don't like the "black-bars", and I could see that it you had a small screen. thought I would still get a widescreen version of the video, personally.
