    Snow tires worth it?

Are snow tires really worth it? some of you may remember the accident i had this past february...would they save me? I can get 4 of them with rims for about 200ish right now and am trying to decide if it is a worthwhile investment?

Depends. Snow tires work great in the snow, but do nothing on ice. Studded snow tires work great in snow and on ice, but on a front wheel drive car, suck when the roads are dry.

Is the car front wheel drive?

Do you drive in the snow alot?

Do you drive in ice a lot?

Are there many hills in your area?

I live in Pittsburgh, so we got our share of hills, we get average snow fall, I drive a front wheel drive car and have not found a use for snow tires. When I had my Camaro, I had non-studded snow tires in the back, and about 100lbs of cat litter and I could go just about any place in snow, and only got stuck once in ice.

Studded snow tires suck on front wheel drive cars on dry pavement.

The reason for this is that your point of contact are now little spikes of metal. You tend to skid ALOT more, or have truble turning when you are in a quick reaction situation. A friend of mine wrecked her car because of studded front tires.
