Well, if you're looking for a NON-digital SLR, and don't want to spend a bunch of money, you could find a Pentax K-1000 for pretty cheap. It was my first camera, manual everything. I loved it, but sometimes that's just not people's thing.

Canon AE-1 Program(Owned one, good build quality IMHO)
Nikon N70, N80 (used)
Used D30 or D60 (Canon Digital)
Skimp on the body though. They can be replaced. However, your lenses are more important...."I've always said that Pixar is the most technically advanced creative company; Apple is the most creatively advanced technical company"

Bluestrike:
Nice shots. I love the barn shot and the chickens are nice and crisp. The colors in the trailer one look off or something and the same with the hay/silo one. What did you have the white balance set to?
EDIT: Just want to add, the DoF on the chickens is great.

On those I altered the WB to give a warm sensation type of feeling to the images. I don't know, I might go back to a neutral setting...."I've always said that Pixar is the most technically advanced creative company; Apple is the most creatively advanced technical company"

I also used 'Selective Color' to give it a Velvia like saturation."I've always said that Pixar is the most technically advanced creative company; Apple is the most creatively advanced technical company"
