Anyone here fly model airplanes?

I just got a small model airplane "for my son" for Xmas. Its a Sig Lil Rascal. I had gotten a cheap plane out of a catalog , and after crashing it a few times , feel like with a more open area and a little more practice with this one , I will be set.

Anyone else fly models? Any advice for a noob?

A glider with a small motor (.049) is a great learning tool. Foam wings and a simple fuselage helps in crash repair. These helped immensely.

If you have a field nearby go to it. They have trainer controllers that link up with an experienced pilot.

how much have you spent in crash repairs? my uncle has a thundertiger raptor 30 and has spent close to $400 on repairs in one crash, probably 90 feet up doing 40mph in the air and he was trying to do a loop and the motor bogged out and he lost power, the thing plummetted to the ground, quite awsome to see.






anywas, for flying planes, the bigger the wingspan, the easier to fly i've herd.
Go talk to your local hobby shop, there are tons of guys there that knjow what their doing and how to get into flying the right way.

if you give that up, shooting off rockets are awsome as well. almost as fun to build as they are to shoot

been contemplating where to shoot off my "g" engine. (im withen 12 miles of jfk so i cant around here)

I used to fly thermal, but now have stuck with slope planes. Easier to build, and hurts less when they splash into the ground:) The last thermal I took 5 months to build, got hung up on the zip line (bungie), and pounded itself to fuzzy scraps in less than 2 seconds....*sigh*

I've a P-38 foamie in the works, I really should finish building that one when I get home. Gotta love those foamies, almost indestructable.

Last plane I crashed...(demolished) was a P-38. Didnt cost much in repair, as I had a lot of extra pieces laying around.

Freeflight models are cooler and a plane only costs about $20 :)
