That's why there is 1 gig of storage. All the spyware infested ones go to the spam folder, then delete 'em! If they go to your inbox, then you will not recognize the email addy. So just delete what you think looks suspicous.
Hey, look at that! It's Santa!

        Paranoid much?

As far as the error with the taskbar icon-
I get it from time to time but usually when my internet is having connectivity issues. Normally it goes away on its own, but if it stays the exclamation point (!) too long I just open my gmail through it to prove that it can connect. It doesn't constant update, so it will stay in the error mode at least until it tries to connect again.

Google is still working out all the bugs and such so there may be an occassional time when the server you're mail is held on may go down for a little bit.

On a side note, I've also heard you can use the MSN messenger to do your gmail notifying but I'm not sure how that would work if you actually use the messenger to IM.

I've never heard of Google selling my information. As far as I can tell they run the subject line through their search engine and give you the same ads they would if you did a search on their normal search engine. You can tell this, because subject lines like "order status" don't get advertisements but ones like "Halo 2 Party My House" get adverts for Halo3.

thats a fine idea but it kind of defeats the point of having the gig of storage space, seeing as it downloads it all to your HDD. don't you think? Only thing i use Outlook for is e-mail that doesn't have a web access point.

              yes and no
there are options in gmail that when it recieves the message it will save a copy in your gmail inbox, archive it, delete it. you tell it what you want to do.
