    Knife advice . . . again?! :)

Well, I figured I'd come here cause last time I got pretty good advice. Have to get another knife. My cousin liked mine an awful lot and took it with him to Indiana. He didn't do it on purpose, he had used it and just forgot to give it back. He'd been such a great help to my grandma (and had one of the worst Christmases I've ever seen) I just said he could keep it. He really liked it and it was in good shape.

So I'd like another one. Heres the thing. I'm thinking fixed blade this time. I was pulling it out like 20 times a day at work and I'm gettin tired of flippin it open and closing it. Actually made my hand a little raw for the first few days. So I thought I'd dry a fixed blade.

Any suggestions? Just try and keep the blade at 4". Anything bigger involves laws In other words - no Ka Bars

    Saw this on CRKT
Not sure how functional it would be but it looks kinda interesting. Always been interested in the Samurai

I've had great experiences with the Cold Steel fixed blade knives, they are probably my first choice. Check em out, www.coldsteel.com you can find some relatively cheap on ebay. Don't settle for other "junk".

O and CRKT is a great brand, but look at Cold Steel first.

I do know the AO sig rules, I just want a free sig pic, that's all!

Those are fighting/self defense knives, and not designed for what you need yours to do. Unless, of course, you work in a street fight.

Why do you want a fixed blade? Get a knife with a smooth action and it shouldn't matter.

        Here are some links anyway.

http://www.benchmade.com/products/pr...px?model=10500 Bowie style blade, 3.95" long.

http://www.crkt.com/fxdfalcn.html This is a better CRKT, designed for utility use, and with a sheath that can be worn inside your pants, allowing access to the knife, without the sheath catching on things.

Of course, your best utility knife is going to be a boxcutter.
        Such a sham(e).

Ka-Bar is the the best utility fixed blades, but you don't want one of those, evidently.

You want a fixed blade for work? Why?

You want something that will slice like the Dickens? Get a box cutter. They're cheap, light, and you'll never have to sharpen it again.

I have a CRKT Ed Halligan edition or whatever it says on the blade. That knife holds an edge like no other I've owned. Cold Steel makes good blades too. I always liked buck knives too.

Its a shame to relegate a good knife to box cutting duty.

Exactly. Cutting boxes is one of the fastest way to dull an edge. If you're cutting boxes, get a box cutter.

Fake Edit: Box cutters are easier to deploy then pretty much all fixed blades, and if you lose it, big deal. They're cheap.

LOL!! Might be a lil extreme.

Self defense was somewhat of a reason as well. Working in DC, I'd like something that at least looks like I could handle myself. And since the liberals have outlawed hand guns . . .

I don't just cut boxes. I do other stuff as well. I cut rope, I open large burlap bags, ect, ect. I've tried a box cutter. Aint fun.

A Ka Bar would flat out get me arrested. Cops in DC just don't like people walking around with 12 inch blades. Can't imagine why

But thanks for the advice. Probably gonna go with a folder anyway. Just wanted to know some options.
