    Ipod owners, question

Ok, im looking to get an ipod, and i have been for some time, hoping to get the 40 gb, with school discount etc. any ways, i was wondering, if you transfer music to it, then delete the files from your computer, will they stay on the ipod next time you go to add music or files? also can i transfer files from the ipod to the computer?

    thanks for your help.

Never erase it from your HDD.

    Redundancy.

    Repeat.

Basically, you can never trust a single HDD. Back it up to the iPod, your HDD, and a few DVD's.

You can transfer files from it to the computer with 3rd party utilities.....

As for deleting them, no. Keep them on your HDD.

Sorry for the plug here but: You could buy a Sony Hi-MD minidisc player for a little more, and then plug it directly into your CD player and record from there, saving your computer from ripped CD files. Not to mention you'll also get a premium recorder with 1gb capacity on each small disc. Just a thought.

If you're ripping from CDs, I see no problem with deleting the files once your done. If your iPod crashes, you'll still have the CDs for the music. I just wouldn't do that with a downloaded mp3.

Well, supposedly you could do it with iTunes, I'm just not familiar how.

I use EphPod with my 40 gig 3G. After putting the music to the pod, I just burn the rest of the music to a CD, and I'm set. 2 sets of files. I can then delete whatever was on the HD to make more room.

Yes, there is also a 3rd party program on my iPod, I forget the name as I rarely use it, that allows you to copy from iPod to HD. I have it, just haven't used it.

Also, don't make the mistake I did, I tried hooking up my iPod to my laptop. iTunes started up, recognized the pod, but not the music. So my collection drastically dwindled as ity got rid of all the songs it had not transferred. I don't know if thats supposed to happen or it only happened to me, but I was ticked.

Oh, and yes, go ahead and buy the iPod, I don't see how I could have lived without one.
                    I wish I wasn't broke....

                      Yes, you can do it.

But, you need to set up your iTunes to not automatically sync up your iPod with your iTunes library (Or, don't delete the song from your iTunes library).

That's what I do on my mom's laptop when the desktop is down, which it is quite a bit.
                      Such a sham(e).
