    Bought My Camera Today, woo

Can't wait to get it. I was pestering Muz on IRC for a while about this, but if he thinks this is the end, just wait till I get my camera and bug him about all the different things I can do with it. HA!

Anyway, I got the Canon Digital Rebel body (not the kit with the plastic lens) and the 28-135 USM IS Lens, and a 512 MB CF card.

Its a good deal right now, it was $1209 shipped, but I get $230 in rebates, so in the end it'll be a bit under a grand for a $1000 MSRP camera and a $400 lens.

Can't wait to start takin pics I'm already looking at Pelican cases so this camera has a long lifespan, the 1300 case looks like the perfect size for a decent price.

Anyone else have a Digital Rebel?

sick man, can't wait to see some pics that bad boy takes.

I don't know a whole lot about photo, I use an old pentax k1000 slr for school and have a good time with it so i can't imagine what it would be like shooting with a nice camera.

Good choice in cameras, have had mine for about 5 months and have not used my regular rebel since.

Only difference is I got a gigabyte cf card. I get over 500 pics at the highest res. and a unknown amount over 999 pics at the lowest.

I get about 200 pics per charge, not bad but gotta get another battery come airshow time

I'll dig up the article for ya but their's a firmware mod that opens up all the features that canon locked on the rebels

I've started researching the digital rebel for the last month or so. Apparantly, there is a way to 'unlock' numerous features. Has yours been unlocked? Have you ever heard about this?

Edit; is the lens that comes with the kit rather crappy?

I do not have a Rebel, but do have a 10D and from what I am told from people have installed the hacked firmware for the rebel, it really does work.

The lenses that come with the Rebel kit are junk pieces of plastic. That is why Thordic went with my recomendation and did not get the kit, but instead put his money towards a Canon 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS USM lens.

Sigma should work on the rebel. It is an EF lens right?

                              Very much so.

I have the older version. I lived with it at 28mm until I got my 10D. Now it's a 50mm
