AO: We are back from the dead... again! After an 18 day outage, we are finally alive and well. Who knew how complicated updating software/databases from 2008 would be. I still have alot of tweaks to make, but my main goal was getting everything patched and updated to 2026.
Vbulletin 6 has changed alot since 2008 so we will have a ton of new features to dig into.
As much as I like the M16 family, it really is time for a whole new design. H&K makes superb guns, and Im sure the M8 will be a fine weapon, though I wish they kept the angular lines of the G36 instead of rounding them. But hey, its for killing people, not looking good.
Remember we are fighting a kinder gentler war. I would assume these will make people feel more at ease than the scary weapons we use now . They can even make them in pretty colors.
Fight all you want, but when current'ex military members say they can't/won't use the thing, you know something's up. It doesn't matter what civvies think, what the people who will be USING, FIXING, and depending on them for their lives think is the important part.
We "civvies" do depend on these weapons for our safety and security of our nation. We rely on the soldiers who use the weapons to protect us using these weapons. I have yet to read anything critical of the XM8 and while I don't claim to have practical experience as some of AO's membership, I would hardly discount the capabilities of the weapon because a few here have said its no good. I would like to know if anyone who has had anything bad to say about it has actually used it in anyway? Carried it for test purposes, fired it in combat-like conditions or harsh environments, or anything with regards to helping get the XM8 either battle ready or denied for military distribution? Don't get me wrong, I have enormous respect for those who serve our nation but without this practical experience they are only voicing an opinion.
if they are risking their life for us, let them use what they want, unless they endanger themselves or someone greatly by using a certain weapon
So each individual soldier should chose their own weapon?
Like it or not the equipment MUST evolve. Operational and procument requirements need to be fulfilled and executed in the largest numbers possible.
Even the arguments over what size of ammunition need to be used often orverlook the realities of interoperability and the reason behind various compromises. For example, even is a bullet has less 'stopping' power, it may be the ideal choice because more allies and differnet services use it. Doesn't matter how 'superior' a certain round is if you run out during a battle and noone else has any more of the right kind...
Enfield is a major POS. The British army is considering replacing it with the G36, which is the same as the M8. FAMAS is okay. The bullpup design is nice, but its not really necessary.
i have no experiance with ether bust i think you get what i mean, you can keep a full length barrel in the over allsize of a carbine
