i think its illigal to mad a ps2 to save stuff to it thats mabey why. cuse i wanted to do the same to my xbox so i can rent games then save them as well with dvds but never had the money and didnt want my xbox to get messed up.

I believe the main reason why the thread was closed is because moding a console is a type of hacking, which is most likely against the rules. Moding a console is not against the law in the US. However, it is illegal in the UK. I'm not going to go into detail, but I will say that you should have a steady hand when soldering. Just google "ps2 mod" and you'll get alot of sites that talks about it.Comment

Modding a computer is not illegal because it is not circumventing a protection. Whereas, modding a console does circumvent protection. It allows the use of copied games and imported games. They're two different meanings of "modding".Originally posted by GlickmanComment

As far as making back ups, it IS NOT illegal in the US to mod or make back ups of DVD's or any other of the like. You are allowed to make ONE back up copy of your items and that is why you see all the DVD burner programs on the shelf at your local wally world.
DVD-X copy allowed you to make as many copies as you wanted, that is why it was illegal and is no longer sold in the US, versus other burn programs that only allow one copy.
as far as moding goes it is not illegal and there are many many xbox mod realated threads here and i didn't see a single one get closed.
I did NOT violate any rules or "guidlines" in my thread. Even if i spoke of something illegal it isn't against the rules here.
I just wanted to see if anyone here had mod'ed their ps2 and what they did and how.Comment
