That's a cheap bass.

Try www.activebass.com

www.ultimate-guitar.com has some helpful forums as well, and of course, if you have any trouble you can MSN me any questions. But you already know that.

Sweet bro. I play guitar and bass. the best way to learn is just start playing it. start with getting some band bass tabs you like, they are easy to read. you just have to know how it sounds in the song.

you can find some good stuff at ultimate-guitar.com

Im starting to get a hang of it, but Ive encountered a problem; my pinky finger (left hand) has very low strength, to the point where its almost impossible to pay for an extended period of time. Just got the bass though; Im sure if I work at it Ill be able to play better/longer.

when playing bass, you use you pointer finger, middle finger, and your pinky. so when you are playing with your pinky push down with you ring finger at the same time. you know what i mean like hold you pinky and ring finger together as you play until you pinky gets stronger

I'd say do your fingering excercises, control, placement, etc two or three times, then shake out both hands. Your pinky and overall fingering will imrpove in due time.

Nick will tell you that you can PM me anytime as well, I'm his band's freaking music/creative/stopplayingstupidmusic director.

Good luck on the bass!

lol, thanks!

I've done a ton of exercises like the one you provided; one that I personally like goes like.. :

--232------------------------232-
------3232-------------3232-----
-----------3232---3232----------
-----------------32----------------

Not that its difficult, but it helps me with speed; I can play that at tempo of around 110 now, sounds kind of cool.

Thanks

if the pinky is weak or your hands are small you can look into the simandyl (spelling?) fingering method. i prefer one finger per fret, but thats me. three books you should get are:
the improvisers bass method - chuck sher
berkeley chord studies for trombone - berkeley press
modern reading text in 4/4 - cant remember, too lazy to go look.

get a metronome
go play with other people as soon as possible, no matter how bad you suck. even if just holding down the roots.
learn by always biting off just a little more than you can chew and then living up to it.
learn the major scale and its 7 modes, do it now. this is mission one. its so easy its rediculous but it scares some people, im not sure why.

oh yeah, good luck and have fun.

stay away from tabs, my friend. learn to play by ear and you'll become a much better bass player.
