Another Comp. Question

Hey, so my last comp question was about RAM and I got a lot of help, so I come back to AO with another question:
How easy is it to replace a CPU, and also, would it be worth it to replace my CPU to get a faster machine.

Here are my specs:
Dell Dimension 4300
Intel Pentium 4 1.5 Ghz
1024 mb RAM
40 gb hard drive (about 18 free)


Also, one other question:
I am interested in installing this: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...176-815&depa=1 in my computer and was wondering if it would work and how easy it would be to install.

the best help you we'll need to know your motherboard brand and part number, usually you can look on the motherboard and you will find usually a 5 digit number/letter part number, should be fairly big and bolt. once you know that number, i would go and goolge it and find out what brand it is and what it's specs are. for a processor upgrade you need to know what the front side bus (fsb) it can support and also to what processor it can support.

Most likely you're going to need both a new motherboard before you can get another processor, and also the type of ram may change so that you might even need to buy new ram... again

I noticed you have a Dell, the rumour I have heard about Dell Computers is they install motherboards and chips that can't be interchanged with other parts same goes for the ram.So you might want to check into that before buying parts hoping they will fit.Or just replace the motherboard, chip and ram like what danheneise said.

As for the card reader your thinking of buying most of them are easy to install they either go in the 5 1/4 slot or 3 1/2 slot. And then there is a ribbon plug that goess in the back and is attached to a card that is installed in your PCI slot. Some of the newer computer motherboards have the support right on the board.

Thanks guys, ya I remember hearing about that dell motherboard thing awhile ago (not being interchangable) but I was hoping it wasn't true. Thanks for your help, and Il be cracking open my case again to see what kind of motherboard I have.

since its a 1.5Ghz P4, its most likly a Skt 423 CPU, which aint worth upgrading.

You'll prolly need a new case, mobo, and CPU.
