    Reflections

As I sit here, feverishly refreshing on this and another, related forum, watching this soap opera unfold, I'm reminded of a psych class many years ago, and a discussion of the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Before going much further, I know some have said that they're being persecuted for "speaking the truth" or "daring to question" the moderators, but I refuse to believe that in the bastion of reason and critical thinking skills that is AO, members would be silenced for so little. Still, given the climate here, I'll try to tread lightly.

In the course of the experiment, otherwise reasonable people were divided into two groups, prisoners and guards, and were put in a simulated prison facility for what was intended to be two weeks. The intention was to study how people react to externally assigned roles, or some similar such wad of pychological babble. Fearing for the safety of all involved, the experiment had to be stopped after only six days.

What happened? Well, those involved adapted to their roles a little too well. The prisoners rioted repeatedly--hostages were held at one point, and the guards became downright sadistic--beating and torturing the prisoners. It's a humbling example of human nature--power corrupts, and the oppressed revolt.

I can't help but find parallels to recent events.

WEll i say stop complaining. Every one here can post what they want but this is a forum and the mods have every right to close a thread for what ever reason simmilar to how business can refuse service to any one for any reason. Just dont be stupid and try and rebel against the mods there just doing there job so threads wont be a flame thread or get totaly out of hand. But thats just me.

Here's the flip side. You're in a leadership role and you let ppl get away with things to be nice, and everyone loves you! Then when you DO crack down your a fiend and everyone hates you for enforcing the rules. That's what happened here and this is the aftermath. Humans get upset cause they are bing limited. It's unfortunat because they should really limit themselfs and achieve better and bigger things. Don't act on feelings, act on knowledge... it's the ONLY way to succeed in life. Ao is just another side show in life.

      Like it or leave it.

Your parallel is off a tad

What we have here is a group of bullies that want to take over the forum and write thier own rules, riducule others and argue ever single point even when they have none

No one can say I have not allowed ENDLESSLY LONG discussions on how the rule are interpreted and how they will be applied TIME AND TIME AGAIN!!! And the same few continue to act ignorant and indignant. You are one of them. Funny how only those that do that find it to be such an injustice when I finaly have had enough. Funny how all the MANY MANY Times I talked to you endlessly and patiently.... you all the sudden discredit and ignore. So I guess I finaly figured out... I wasted my time listening to your "so called" inteligent arguments. I guess you just really needed good old fashion disipline. So you made your own bed. Now lie in it.
